On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, we received great news during a press conference about the next Race of Champions (ROC) coming to Miami with two action-packed days (January 21 and 22, 2017) hosted inside the Marlins Park baseball stadium! Miami is the first city in the United States to host the Race of Champions which started 28 years ago in 1988 by Fredrik Johnsson, President of International Media Productions and Michèle Mouton, the most successful female rally driver of all time.
The Race of Champions will bring together some of the world’s greatest drivers from motor sport’s major disciplines – including Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, Le Mans, MotoGP, World Rally and the X Games – and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery. The races are about two minutes each where two drivers compete in the same type of vehicle which are either: rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. One of the reasons this competition is very exciting is each driver will need to personally adapt to the different vehicles for each race. Also, there will be many fun and family friendly activities to entertain fans. For example, stunt shows on four wheels and two plus DJs, cheerleaders and plenty of other entertainment to keep the race fans on the edge of their seats. In addition, when fans buy a ticket at RaceOfChampions.com they are entered for a chance to be part of the race to ride alongside a champion driver.
The press conference was moderated by Fernando Fiore who interviewed Fredrik Johnsson, Kurt Busch who is a NASCAR champion and Ryan Hunter-Reay who is an Indy champion. Both Kurt and Ryan expressed they feel honored to be selected to particpate and look forward to competing again in the Race of Champions in January.
Germany’s four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel will defend the ROC Champion of Champions crown he won last year in London.
We look forward to see you soon at the Race of Champions in Miami!
